FORGIVABLE LOAN/STIPEND PROGRAM

OVERVIEW
The Education Fund offers a limited number of stipends to members enrolled in an eligible healthcare-related academic program at an accredited institution. The stipend will compensate you to reduce your work schedule by up to 8 hours per week for class attendance and to study. The stipend does not have to be paid back if recipients who move into upgraded positions continue to work with their current employer for a year or more and/or meet other requirements. If these requirements are not meet, then the stipend must be repaid. In addition to financial support, participants also are assigned a counselor who keeps in touch regularly and offers access to other resources and services. This is also the case with all of our programs.

APPLICATION PROCESS
The deadline has passed and we are no longer accepting applications for Spring 2009. Recipients for Spring 2009 will be selected and notified by the end of this year. Fall 2009 applications will be available soon, so please check back.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
In order to be eligible for our Forgivable Loan/Stipend Program, you must:

• Be enrolled or accepted in a Registered Nurse, or other professional or technical, program for the coming semester
• Work in an SEIU UHW or other eligible bargaining unit position for which the employer makes an Education Fund contribution.
• Be a regular, full- or part-time employee receiving benefits. (Non-benefited, bargaining unit employees may be eligible for other services).
• Have completed your probationary period.
• Are able to work out an agreement with your manager to reduce your work schedule.
• Meet other eligibility criteria that your employer, the training fund and/or the training program requires.

Please Note: This program is not for completion of prerequisites. Selection for the Stipend Program is limited, and based on eligibility criteria and availability of funding.
