Temporary Career Counselor/ Implementation Specialist, LA
The SEIU UHW-WEST & Joint Employer Educational Fund has a position available for a Career Counselor/Implementation Specialist. This is a salaried, temporary position of up to five months’ duration, based in our Los Angeles office and reporting to the Assistant Director.
The Career Counselor/Implementation Specialist provides career counseling to and assists in developing and monitoring training programs for union healthcare workers. This individual works with Education Fund staff, unions, employers, employees and instructors to develop, implement, and provide outreach for training programs. The Career Counselor/Implementation Specialist is responsible for developing recruitment and training materials and keeping required documentation of training programs and participants.
The Career Counselor/Implementation Specialist meets individually with participants to provide advice and guidance on career paths within the healthcare field. Additionally, the successful applicant will deliver workshops on counseling and support topics, as well as provide individual assessments, enrollment, case management and referral services to participants while maintaining relevant education plans, case files, tracking reports, and written compliance reports. Other responsibilities may include the processing of participant stipends, which includes the collection and analysis of forms and data. This individual will also communicate with Education Fund staff, unions, and employers regarding ongoing programs.
Travel to training locations, including overnight trips, may be occasionally required.
Minimum qualifications and abilities include:
- Experience and knowledge to counsel members regarding college pre-requisites and requirements in the healthcare field,
- Knowledge of healthcare occupations and skill requirements,
- Commitment to working within a labor/management environment,
- Ability to conduct various forms of basic and vocational skills testing.
- Ability to work with a diverse membership is essential.
- Ability to work independently and develop relationships with educational institutions, unions, and healthcare employers,
- Flexibility to accommodate changing work requirements.
- Strong written, oral, computer, organizational and problem solving skills are critical for success in this position,
- Valid driver’s license, insurance and automobile in good working order required.
- Minimum of one year’s experience planning and implementing educational or training programs preferred
- 3 to 5 years general experience within a union, non profit, or healthcare environment preferred.
- BA required. Degree in education, career counseling, or other relevant field is desired.

Temporary Implementation Specialist (LA)
The SEIU UHW - West & Joint Employer Education Fund has a position available for an Implementation Specialist to implement education and training programs. This is a salaried, temporary position of up to five months’ duration, based in our Los Angeles office and reporting to the Assistant Director. While the Implementation Specialist may be assigned to work on any Education Fund program, the intent is to assign this individual to work primarily on Professional Development and Skill Builders.
The Implementation Specialist plans, develops, and coordinates the implementation of education and training programs for healthcare workers represented by SEIU UHW - West and other union employees who are eligible for Education Fund services. The person in this position will follow through on program logistics with educational providers and training vendors, develop marketing and recruitment materials, recruit participants, screen applicants for basic eligibility, process participant stipends, collect and analyze data.
The Implementation Specialist will work as a team member with educational, employer and union partners, as well as other staff of the Education Fund, to implement effective training programs. This position is responsible for developing Education Fund materials, keeping required documentation of education and training programs, submitting regular written reports and for ensuring compliance with grant and Education Fund requirements and goals. This position may be asked to update the Education Fund staff and union members on program developments. This position may be required to travel to training locations, including overnight trips.
Minimum of one year’s experience planning and implementing educational or training programs preferred. Experience within a union and/or healthcare environment preferred. Must be committed to working within a labor/management environment. Candidates must be proficient in the use of basic office software (Word and Excel in a Windows environment). Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Candidates must also possess excellent organizational skills. A car, California drivers’ license and car insurance are also required.

The SEIU UHW - West & Joint Employer Education Fund has a position available for an Implementation Specialist to implement education and training programs. This is a salaried, temporary position of up to five months’ duration, based in our Sacramento office and reporting to the Director of Student Services, with significant travel (at least 3 days per week) to Stockton.
