TEMPORARY ACADEMIC COUNSELOR - NURSING
The Academic Counselor will provide educational counseling and case management for union healthcare workers who are enrolled in nursing programs and nursing program pre-requisites, with an emphasis on ensuring that pre-requisites are aligned with current nursing program requirements. This full-time, temporary (up to one year) position will be based in our Sacramento office.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Academic Counselor will work with healthcare workers, union staff, community colleges and employers to assess, enroll and case manage training participants, He or she will be responsible for developing and maintaining individual written education plans, case files and group tracking reports.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum qualifications include: A BA degree, the experience and knowledge to counsel members regarding nursing program pre-requisites and requirements, knowledge of healthcare facilities and skill requirements, and an understanding of unions. The ability to work with a diverse membership is essential. Must be able to work independently and develop relationships with educational institutions, unions and healthcare employers, and be flexible to accommodate changing work requirements. Strong written, oral, computer, organizational and problem solving skills are important. A significant amount of travel to sites throughout the region is required; a valid driver’s license, insurance and automobile in good working order will be required.
A degree in career counseling, nursing, or academic advising is preferred.

ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT, STIPEND
The Accounting Assistant will provide direct support to the Forgivable Loan/Stipend program in all accounting and reimbursement related areas and to management staff as necessary. In addition, this position is specifically responsible for compiling, processing and maintaining reimbursement accounts and records. The position is salaried and located in our Oakland office.
RESPONSIBLITIES
- Compiles documentation on FLP/Stipend recipients to calculate bi-weekly reimbursements
- Computes and calculates reimbursements and corrects errors to ensure accuracy
- Maintains spreadsheets and database for all FLP/Stipend recipients
- Compiles and sorts documents, such as paystubs, Education Plans and check requests
- Prints all FLP/Stipend reports and maintains all FLP/Stipend files
- Answers all FLP/Stipend reimbursement inquiries
- Assists in FLP/Stipend special projects as necessary
- Other duties may be assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate Degree in Business or Accounting
- Minimum of 2 years of working experience in an Accounting department environment
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously within strict timelines/deadlines
- Strong analytical mind, interpersonal skills, and ability to work in a dynamic environment are essential
- Facility in Microsoft Excel is required
- Strong written, oral, computer, and problem solving skills are important
- Prefer experience working within the non profit environment
- Experience in fund accounting system is a strong plus
