The Shirley Ware Education Center
With federal and local grants, SWEC has health & safety, hazardous materials and upgrade training for more than 1,100 healthcare workers throughout California.
Hazardous Materials Awareness Training
With grant funding from the NIEHS, 239 healthcare workers received training on chemical and biological hazards in the workplace. Participants gained awareness about common workplace hazards and learned how to respond in the event of a hazardous materials spill or related emergency. This training also enabled workers to pass along what they learned to their co-workers. Participants received continuing education credits for the training.
Health and Safety Training
Long term care and homecare workers face unique challenges on the job - from repetitive stress and lifting injuries to combative clients and exposure to blood-borne pathogens. With grant funding from OSHA, 903 long term care and homecare workers received training to reduce job-related injuries and illnesses.
Workforce Investment Act
